Curves around the World: Little Black Dress

Tonight is my younger brother's high school graduation!  I am so excited for him - and am also excited for an opportunity to dress up!  This lacy black dress from ASOS has been sitting in my closet for several months.  I am not sure what made me pick it over all of my other black dresses, but I am glad I did because it fits me so well!

I didn't accessorize much with this outfit.  A) Because my hair is blue and B) because all of my jewelery is in boxes being organized right now!  I did however decide to photograph my matching hair and nails. Matching counts as accessorizing, right?!

Check out my fellow bloggers in their little black dresses this week!

Curves Around the World: Statement Necklace

As you can see there is something a little more "statement" about me than usual.  Yep, I went from purple to BLUE!

I have a lot of bold necklaces, but something about this feather necklace got my attention today.  I got this for two bucks at an H&M a few years ago - quite the steal.  I am off to work to sell some fantastic clothes!  Have a great one! :)

Curves Around the World: Lace

Week number two!  The challenge was lace.  As opposed to last weeks challenge, I have a ton of lace in my closet.  (See here, here, here, and here for examples of some lace pieces/pieces featuring lace that I own).  I decided against any of my all-lace dresses or tops in favor of a dress with only a small amount of lace.  This dress is an older Asos dress that I purchased in one of Rebecca's closet sales.  I found the cut of it really interesting and had to have it in my closet .  Although not featured, I wore this dress with a pair of black, cut-out flats from Torrid.

Be sure to check out my fellow bloggers to find out how they wore lace this week.

Curves Around the World: Animal Print

I was invited to take part in a blog series featuring curvy ladies from around the globe.  I would like to introduce you to a wonderful group of women who I will be blogging with on a week-to-week basis.

The theme for our very first week was Animal Print.  And I will be totally honest with you, I own very little animal print.  Actually, none of my clothing that fits is animal print.  EXCEPT for a single, long-line bra from Lane Bryant.  I am sure many of you remember going gaga for it when it first came out a couple years ago.  I snatched mine up on Ebay last spring.

I've actually worn this underwear-as-outerwear out before.  There is a photo of me somewhere on the internet featuring this bra, a long maxi skirt, but sans shrug at Toronto's Gay Pride last year.  I, unfortunately, was not able to re create that exact look as it is not hot June weather nor is today an extraordinarily outrageous occasion.  This time I am wearing the bra with a skirt that I picked up at a plus-sized swap in February and a long-sleeved shrug from City Chic.

As you may have noticed, my hair is still purple, but it is fading fast.  I am trying to give it a break before it gets bleached back blonde so I have been repping the sock bun as often as possible.  Do I ever love the sock bun.

And finally, possibly my favorite part of my outfit: the shoes.  I picked these up at F21 a month or so ago when I went shopping with Crystal.  They are clear jelly and studs -- hello, two of my favorite shoe-things!

Stripes on Stripes on Stripes

Stripes on Stripes on Stripes

I am abso-freaking-lutley obsessed with black and white stripes.  So much so that my co-workers have commented on how I belong in the store next store with their half a wall of thick stripes (but they are a straight sized store, of course they have 1083333987 different trendy pieces with stripes).  I know this look might look remotely Beetlegeuse-esque, but I think that is why I love it.  Most of my stripes are circa the Domino Dollhouse Urban Mermaids collection, but unfortunately that is no longer available!  Featured above are some of the most trendy, awesome, and unique black-and-white pieces that you can currently find.

I Practice What I Preach!

Trust me when I say that I know the venture into body positivity and fat acceptance is tough when you first get started.  You have a bunch of people telling you to wear whatever you want, just love your body, tell anyone who doesn't like it to fuck off, etc.  I know it is hard to change the mindset that you are used to.  But I promise you, that if this lady can do it, so can you!

I am writing this post because I found out a friend of mine has joined the "Ultimate Facebook Weight Loss Challenge" or something of the like.  I was really shocked because I thought she had always been on board the love your body train.  I don't know how this could possibly help her, but I am just trying to remind anyone out there reading this that you are perfect just the way you are.

On to the "outfit".  This is probably the most basic combination of clothing you will ever see me wear.  But I think it makes quite the statement!  This fatty is wearing some ultra-short shorts and a crop top.  How much more "I love my body.  Get over it." can you get?!  I am going to be stuck in a hot car for just shy of four hours and I was not about to make myself suffer by covering up.  It is definitely summer-like weather where I am right now!

I was explaining to my boyfriend last week that shopping (specifically online shopping) is such a stress reliever.  He personally hates shopping and dreads even going to Target with me.  So he suggested a new take on my favorite stress reliever: window shopping.  That's right Laura, don't buy a thing!  I have been keeping this in mind the last few days and have simply been going to my favorite online retailers, loading up the shopping cart within a certain budget, and then stepping away from the computer.  It gives me my fix of looking at cute clothes without taking the hit on my credit card.  Thanks for the suggestion, John!

So today I decided to try and faux-purchase some summer essentials from Torrid.  I gave myself an imaginary budget of three-hundred dollars and think I made out quite well, considering almost everything was full priced!  You know a love me a fatkini, but I nearly died when I saw this cute retro-esque bathing suit.  It reminds me of a sailor.  I "nabbed" a couple of flowy, white, summertime tops as well as a sugar skull top, which I always seem to end up buying from torrid.  Am I morbid for loving skulls so much?  We have a pair of raspberry coloured shorts at AE that we just can't seem to keep on the shelves, but I found a dupe on the Torrid website!  And surprisingly they actually had them in my size.

Do you ever online window shop, or is it just me?  And do you have any tips or tricks to help me curb my spending or save some money when it comes to clothing?
